With her sights set on cornering the gourmet gift market, the visionary behind Mississippi Madness enlisted Communication Arts to develop a brand, wholesale marketing materials, and package design for her black-eyed pea products. To make these modest legumes become a “must have” for gourmet gift baskets, Communication Arts designed a system of cellophane bags, sealed transversely at top and bottom, yielding a perfect tetrahedron and an award-winning place in gourmet gift marketing.

Each pyramid of peas and spices is encircled by a simple paper strap, secured on the face of the package by a triangular pressure-sensitive label.

More than a distinctive form, each of these color-coded products has an intriguing name and compelling Mississippi story teaser, necessitating purchase to learn the ending.

Operational materials continue the mystique of small town origin, using the colors and forms of vintage postage.
