To facilitate and standardize tour guide training and licensing at the Vicksburg National Military Park, Communication Arts was chosen by the National Park Service to develop a manual for a 12–session training program. The 300–page, reference tool is an encyclopedic study of the Civil War Vicksburg Campaign and has more than 400 visuals. Communication Arts was responsible for creating the content outline, conducting primary research, procuring images, writing text, developing layout, and producing a limited print edition.

Prospective guides use the Vicksburg National Military Park Tour Guide Training Manual as a text in the training program itself, and in preparation for the licensed battlefield guide written exam. With more in-depth information than could possibly be incorporated into any single excursion, licensed tour guides use the manual as a resource in building custom tours of Vicksburg, Mississippi.
