With one regional cookbook success in hand, The Junior League of Jackson engaged Communications Arts to create another that would garner national attention—“a coffee table book you can cook with in the kitchen.” Communication Arts designed and orchestrated—from concept to completion—the development of a 261-page, wire-bound, hard-cover book that has been nationally recognized. The book has sold over 130,000 copies, since its publication in 1991.

After concepting the book around The League’s theme of “doors”, the Communication Arts creative team scouted locations, hired and art directed nationally acclaimed photographer Patricia Brabant, wrote tantilizing stories, designed layout, created support illustrations, constructed technical art, and obtained competitive print production pricing for the first edition of 60,000 and the second edition of 80,000 books.

To maximize involvement by The League’s remarkably skilled, talented, and energetic volunteer workforce, Communication Arts even developed a database system for input, evaluation, and editing of the triple-tested recipes.
